The Commission on Missing and Exploited Children (COMEC) is preparing for its 29th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on September 14, 2024, at the Links at Galloway (4-person scramble, shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.). This fundraiser helps fund our organization with staff, supplies, and general operating expenses. Click here for our brochure, which contains information on how to register.

The Juvenile Court has temporarily closed access to the building while it evaluates environmental issues that have occurred within.  While this is certainly inconvenient, be assured that we will continue to offer our services and expertise throughout this interim basis.

During 2023, our nonprofit charity has continued to meet the needs of the community by maintaining our service programs to all who need them, free of charge. 

We have:

• Maintained an up-to-date comprehensive web site that promoted COMEC and the services we provide.
• Maintained our Child Safety Programs
• Maintained our Teen Substance Abuse Program
• Participated in the Juvenile Court’s Truancy Prevention Program
• Provided technical support for parents, caregivers and Law Enforcement who are searching forand recovering children
• Provided free counseling for children and families at our Juvenile Court Office
• Presented our 29^th Annual Charity Golf Tourney fundraiser
• Continued additional fundraising  for our worthwhile programs and services

This New Year (2024) will our organization’s 40^th anniversary of operation.  Our organization has been working to promote the safety and protection of all children since 1984.  This is quite an achievement that many nonprofits do not share.  Most non-profits have a life span of less than 20 yers.

Our longevity is due to the continued reliable free services that we provide.  This coupled with the long standing caring and support of our Board Members, Juvenile Court, Memphis Police Department and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department all have all contributed to our success over the past forty years.

Having been Executive Director for the past thirty (30) years of COMEC has been my honor and privilege and I particularly appreciate the continued opportunity to work with troubled families and their children.  I have often said that if a person has helped one child then you have left your mark on this walk of life.

COMEC is a non-profit agency that was established in 1984 as a cooperative effort between the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County and area law enforcement to better address the issues surrounding missing children and the issues that affect them.

COMEC has remained fully operational during 2021 and into 2022, and our offices and services have been open every day that the Court was open for business during the Pandemic. In 2021, COMEC experienced a continued decrease in the number of persons physically present in the Court and the majority of our services have been provided through telephonic or electronic data communications.

The COMEC Office handled calls for technical assistance on issues related to missing children (Runaways, Parental Abduction, and Stranger Abduction). Our services were provided free of charge to Law Enforcement, the Department of Children’s Services, Juvenile Court, and many others. COMEC also provides Child Safety Educational Programs, Teen Substance Abuse Screening, Bullying, and other programs to the community free of charge.

COMEC is very fortunate to have the continued support of the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County and the Memphis Police Department. In fact, COMEC has an MPD Liaison Officer who promotes additional contact with area youth and the issues that affect them. Sgt. Tucker is also the Child Abduction Response Team representative and assists with AMBER Alerts.
