2023 Year-End Message

I hope you and yours have had a wonderful holiday season, and I hope you are looking to continue your efforts to provide leadership and help for our work at COMEC

During 2023, our nonprofit charity has continued to meet the needs of the community by maintaining our service programs to all who need them, free of charge.

We have:

  • Maintained an up-to-date comprehensive web site that promoted COMEC and the services we provide.
  • Maintained our Child Safety Programs
  • Maintained our Teen Substance Abuse Program
  • Participated in the Juvenile Court’s Truancy Prevention Program
  • Provided technical support for parents, caregivers and Law Enforcement who are searching forand recovering children
  • Provided free counseling for children and families at our Juvenile Court Office
  • Presented our 29th Annual Charity Golf Tourney fundraiser
  • Continued additional fundraising  for our worthwhile programs and services

This New Year (2024) will our organization’s 40th anniversary of operation.  Our organization has been working to promote the safety and protection of all children since 1984.  This is quite an achievement that many nonprofits do not share.  Most non-profits have a life span of less than 20 yers.

Our longevity is due to the continued reliable free services that we provide.  This coupled with the long standing caring and support of our Board Members, Juvenile Court, Memphis Police Department and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department all have all contributed to our success over the past forty years.

Having been Executive Director for the past thirty (30) years of COMEC has been my honor and privilege and I particularly appreciate the continued opportunity to work with troubled families and their children.  I have often said that if a person has helped one child then you have left your mark on this walk of life.
